Elaine Cole is a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in individual and couples psychotherapy. Elaine’s clients are highly functioning individuals and couples that span the full spectrum of socio-economics, careers, lifestyles, ethnic backgrounds, and ages. She knows the vulnerability and fears associated with getting into therapy. That’s why she makes her practice a safe place to be heard and not judged – a place where you can vent, explore, and recuperate.
She has been in full time private practice since 1996.
University of Judaism
Elaine has been on the teaching staff at the Wagner Program, American Jewish University (formerly the University of Judaism) since 1998. At the Wagner Program, Elaine guides mental health students through complex counseling issues using various techniques such as role-play and discussion. This is a two-year program in which students learn paraprofessional counseling skills to offer to people who would otherwise not receive mental health attention.
Kaplan Test Prep
Elaine and her husband co-founded the first west coast Kaplan Test Prep school in 1971. The business subsequently grew into a successful international corporation. Today, Kaplan Test Prep is world-renowned for its high success rate in preparing students for the grueling entrance exams that are required for graduate school admittance.
Education
When the Washington Post purchased the Kaplan Test Prep schools from Stanley Kaplan, Elaine returned to her education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in 1987, graduating just days before her 40th birthday.
She earned her Masters of Arts in Psychology from the California Graduate Institute in 1990. While raising two children, she interned 3000 hours and became a licensed marriage and family therapist in 1994.
